India restores supply of eggs and pulses to Maldives
The Dollar Business Bureau The government has allowed the supply of over 23 crores of eggs and 122.23 MT of pulses to Maldives for 2017-18 without any restrictions or prohibition for export, under bilateral trade agreement between Government of India and Government of Maldives during the period 2017-18 w.e.f. April, 2017. A notification No.20/2015-2020 to the effect has been issued by the DGFT on August 14, 2017, mentioning that this decision is effective from April, 2017. The domestic prices of major agricultural items were below that of export prices in most of the years during the period 2004-2014, a joint study by The World Bank and Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER) on Tuesday revealed. WPI inflation drops to 0.90%, an 8-month low in June
The Dollar Business Bureau Inflation based on Wholesale price index (WPI) fell to 0.90% in June, lowest in eight months as the prices of food commodities and manufactured goods declined. Inflation was 2.17% in May 2017 and (-) 0.09% in June last year, according to the official data released by the Commerce Ministry on Friday. “Build up inflation rate in the financial year so far was -0.44% compared to 3.71% in the corresponding period of the previous year, it said. Area under horticulture crops recording an increase of 1.9% over previous year

These estimates are based on the information received from different State/UTs in the country. The production of horticulture crops in the country during 2016-17 is estimated to be more than 295 million tonnes which 3.2 % higher as compared to the previous year’s 2015-16 estimates. The area under horticulture crops has increased from 245 lakh ha to 249 lakh ha in 2016-17 recording an increase of 1.9% over previous year. Fruits production during the current year is estimated to be 93 million tonnes which 2.9% higher than the previous year. Potato production in India to be at 47 MT this year

The potato production was 43.4 million tonnes in the crop year 2015-16 (July-June), whereas the previous record was 48 million tonnes witnessed in 2014-15. “Looking at the crop condition and arrival in mandis, I feel the overall output will be close to record levels. Potato output would be around 47 million tonnes this year,” A K Singh, Managing Director, National Horticulture Board (NHB) told PTI. UP govt to buy one lakh metric tonne of potatoes at Rs 487 per quintal
PTI In an effort to end the miseries of potato growers in Uttar Pradesh, the state government today decided to purchase one lakh metric tonnes of potato from farmers at Rs 487 per quintal. "Government aims at giving adequate price to potato growers, if we cannot give them profit, we want to give them price of their produce," Cabinet minister Shrikant Sharma told reporters after a meeting of the state cabinet. There have been reports that the potato farmers in the state were unable to get a proper price for their produce because of the presence of intermediaries.
