Indias power production up by 6.25% in Apr-Jan FY17
The Dollar Business Bureau Power generation in India from conventional as well as renewable sources surged by 6.25% to 1,038.9 billion units (BUs) in the April-January period of this financial year compared to the same period a year-ago. “The power generation increased by 6.25% at 1038.9 BUs in the April-January period this financial year compared to 977.81 BUs in the corresponding period a year-ago,” according to an official from power ministry.“Focussing mainly on the renewables sources is driving up overall figures of electricity generation,” the official added. The official further stated that the growth in power production, excluding the renewable sources, was 5.04% in the first 10-month period of the fiscal 2016-17. Nitish reviews progress ofNabinagar power project

NTPC, SWR sign pact to double Hotgi-Kudgi section
The Dollar Business Bureau Government-owned NTPC has signed a pact with the Indian railway zone - South Western Railways (SWR), for doubling a 134 km section of the zone under the scheme of customer funding concession. “As per the customer funding scheme of Ministry of Railways policy under participative model for rail connectivity, NTPC has decided to fund the construction cost of the rail section,” the energy conglomerate said in a statement. NTPC has submitted Rs.946 crore with SWR zone as the cost of doubling of 134 km railway section between Hotgi-Kudgi, it added. Government approves institutional mechanism for smart grid projects
The Dollar Business Bureau The government has approved the National Smart Grid Mission (NSGM), an institutional mechanism, for implementation of policies related to smart grid networks, Piyush Goyal, Minister of state for Power, Coal & New and Renewable Energy told Lok Sabha on Thursday. The NSGM is an institutional mechanism which will plan, monitor and implement the policies and programs related to smart grid activities in the country, the minister said. The total outlay of Rs 985 crore and a budgetary allocation of Rs 338 crore have already been allocated for the NSGM activities during the 12th Plan.
