Govt to import more pulses to tackle price rise

The Dollar Business Bureau In order to tackle the crisis of rising prices of pulses, the government on Thursday came up with a multi-pronged approach which includes additional imports of pulses and distributing 'chana dal' at subsidised rates. A statement by Ministry of Food & Public Distribution said, “the National Consumer Cooperative Federation (NCCF), to make sure that pulses will be available at reasonable prices, has given directions to begin selling chana dal at Rs.60 a kg through its mobile outlets in the national capital." The Federation is already selling 'urad' and 'tur' through its mobile outlets at Rs.120 a kg. Odishas VAT reduction on pulses to benefit customers

Aamir H Kaki The approval of Odisha government to reduce Value Added Tax (VAT) on pulses from 5% to 1% is welcomed by the industry as it will directly benefit the customers. Anil Agarwal, Owner, Trupti Dal & Floor Mill, which deals in pulses, said that the traders welcome the government’s decision and the benefit of the VAT reduction will directly go to the customers. “If we take into account the VAT on pulses, we have to pay extra Rs.8-10 as tax on a kg of tur dal. Govt increases the buffer stock for pulses

The Dollar Business Bureau The government of India has increased the size of the buffer stock of pulses by more than 5 times to 8 lakh tonnes for this year as they seek to sell lentils at a lower rate for the relief of the customers. Over 5,366 tons of seized pulses offloaded in mkt

Source: PTI According to the data, these 5,366 tonnes of pulses were offloaded by six states — Chattisgarh, Delhi, Karnataka, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan   Over 5,366 tonnes of pulses have been offloaded in the markets so far out of a total 1.32 lakh tonnes seized from hoarders in raids conducted by the states, a move aimed at boosting supply and easing prices. Pulses prices have been ruling as high as Rs.180 per kg in the retail markets across the country as their production dipped by 2 million tonnes in the 2014-15 crop year on poor and untimely rains.
