Google announces launch of Wi-Fi service at Guwahati

PTI Tech giant Google announced on Tuesday 10 May, the launch of free high-speed public Wi-Fi service at Guwahati Railway Station in Assam. The live service would be available to users at 15 stations across the country. Besides Guwahati, the service also goes live in Jaipur, Patna, Ujjain and Allahabad Railway stations and Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu will formally inaugurate the same at these new stations soon, Google India's Head of Access Programs Gulzar Azad said. Google has been deploying the service over the extensive fibre network of the Railways' arm RailTel which provides Internet services as RailWire. Regulatory framework vital for private participation in railways

The Dollar Business Bureau The Union Minister of Railways, Suresh Prabhu, on Monday, pitched for a regulatory mechanism to attract and check the flow of private capital into the Railways sector. The minister said the regulatory mechanism will ensure that private investments do not affect the public functioning in the sector in any way. The Union minister advocated the need for setting up of such a regulatory body, which should be independent from the service provider for attracting private players. “A regulatory mechanism is specifically required for it.
