Textile industry calls for imposing safeguard measures against cheap imports
The Dollar Business Bureau Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI), an apex textile industry body, on Monday called for imposing protection measures in order to prevent the routing of cheap fabrics from countries such as China through Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, where India has free trade agreements. The garment industry in India will face tough competition from countries like Bangladesh as the garments imported from these countries are cheaper as the production cost is quite low compared to India, CITI said in a statement. Govt to build online repository of seals and signatures
The Dollar Business Bureau To help ease the process of verification the Board has asked the Directorate General of Systems to build an online repository on ICES for storing the signatures/seals to facilitate comparison by the assessing officers. DRI has been entrusted with the task of uploading the data in the database. A customs notification no., 31/2016 dtd 12th September, 2016 detailing the instructions with regard to implementation of Rules of Origin under Free/Preferential Trade Agreements and the verification of Preferential Certificates of Origin was sent out today to the concerned ministries, boards and the public. 2.108 Rules of Origin (Non-Preferential)
(d) The agency would ensure that goods are of Indian origin as per criteria defined in (d) below before granting CoO (non preferential). Certificate would be issued as per format given in Annexure-II to Appendix 2 E. It should be ensured that no correction/re-type is made on certificate. Any agency desirous of enlistment in Appendix–2 E may submit their application as per Annexure-I to Appendix 2 E to DGFT.
