The Dollar Business Bureau After awarding a record Rs.4.5 lakh crore worth of contracts in highways segment, a multi-modal transport planning consisting of railways, waterways, airports and bus stations will be implemented in a big manner, said Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari on Friday. “We broke all records in highways. We have awarded contracts worth Rs.4.5 lakh crore so far. Coastal Shipping: Still a long way to go; VPT gearing Up

Major ports including Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT) have started taking measures including offering incentives to boost cargo transportation using coastal shipping. ICC Shipping Association observes the legislation changes and processes but infrastructural issues are yet to be addressed properly as practised in China, Japan, EU and the US. Sustainable development of coastal areas under Sagarmala

The Dollar Business Bureau As part of the Sagarmala programme, the Ministry of Shipping has taken various actions to meet its objective for sustainable development of coastal areas. A clearly defined action plan has been drawn to ensure sustainable and holistic development as part of the Ministry’s National Perspective Plan. The communitiesin the coastal areas are recognised as critical stakeholders in the port-led development agenda under the programme. Nutrient Based Subsidy Policy extended to coastal shipping of fertilizers

The Dollar Business Bureau  The coastal shipping and inland water transportation have extended the policy for reimbursement of freight for movement of phosphatic and potassic (P&K) fertilizers under the Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) Policy. It was only the movement of fertilizer by rail from the plant or the port to rake points in various districts that were included in the subsidy but will now also apply to the movement of fertilizers through coastal shipping and inland waterways. Sagarmala to cut down logistics cost, saves Rs.35k -40k crore a year

Inland waterways a game changer in national connectivity, Gadkari

The Dollar Business Bureau Describing the development of inland waterways as a game changer in national connectivity, Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Tuesday that the move will reduce cost of transportation as well as road congestion. Gadkari informed there are just five inland waterways at present and 106 more have been identified by the central government. This would cut the cost of transportation for passengers and goods, reduce congestion on roads and play a crucial role in pollution reduction, he said while addressing a conference organised by the Press Information Bureau in Chandigarh. India, US to enhance cooperation in maritime sector

The Dollar Business Bureau India and the US on Monday agreed to enhance their engagements in the maritime sector, as the American ports evinced keen interest in India’s port-led development programmes, particularly the Sagarmala initiative.
