Indias domestic air passenger traffic surges 16% in Feb
The Dollar Business Bureau Air passenger traffic of domestic carriers increased around 16% to 86.55 lakh in the month of February compared to the same period in the previous year, according to the data by Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). India’s domestic carriers together flew overall 86.55 lakh passengers in the month of February 2017 against the 74.76 lakh passengers in the same month of the previous year, witnessing a growth of 15.77%, the data said. Significantly, in the month of January, the air passenger traffic had increased 25.13% to 95.79 lakh. Boeing launches Engineering and Technology Centre in Bengaluru

SpiceJet strikes Rs. 1.5 lakh cr deal with Boeing for 205 planes
PTI In one of the biggest deals in the Indian aviation sector, SpiceJet will purchase up to 205 new aircrafts from Boeing with the order valued at Rs.1,50,000 crore. With the earlier order for 55 planes and additional 100 new 737-8 MAX aircrafts, the no-frills carrier now has firmed up order for a total of 155 planes, besides purchase rights for 50 B737-8 MAX and wide body aircraft. SpiceJet likely to place order for new aircrafts this fiscal
The Dollar Business Bureau Optimistic about the growth prospects, low-cost airline SpiceJet said on Friday that it expects to conclude negotiations and put orders for new aircrafts in the current fiscal year ending in March. The budget carrier, which has been in profit for seven quarters in a row after battling financial instability, is expected to be looking for about 100 aircrafts. “For quite some time, the discussions are going on. We are expecting to complete the negotiations and would place an order this fiscal,” said a SpiceJet spokesperson in a statement. Source: PTI Gulf carrier Qatar Airways today said it is in talks with IndiGo, the largest Indian airline by market share and set to rest speculations that it is looking for a partnership with SpiceJet. Qatar Airways' official confirmation that it was in discussions with IndiGo comes ahead of the nofrills carrier gearing up for an initial share sale worth nearly Rs 2,500 crore. Several times in the past also, the Doha-based airline has evinced interest in picking up stake in IndiGo.
