Trade between India and Pakistan comes to a grinding halt

PTI  Trade between India and Pakistan remained disrupted for the second day today because of the strike by truck operators. Trade was disrupted at the Integrated Check Post (ICP) when sizeable members of the Attari Truck Union launched stir for indefinite period yesterday in support of their demands. The agitating truckers and drivers, along with their families, relatives joined the stir near the ICP. One of the Union leaders Kulwinder Singh said the Union has unanimously resolved to take up the matter with Amritsar Deputy Commissioner as well as Custom Commissioner for the redressal of their issues. Indias gold imports drop 34% in February 2016

The Dollar Business Bureau India’s gold import plunged by 34% to 36.9 tonnes in February this year as compared to the same month of previous year. The imports of gold have been falling because of the ongoing strike, now entering into the 35th day, which, as the industry says, has significantly injured the domestic industry. Jewellers have been on an unending strike against the proposed 1% excise duty on jewellery. “In India, jewellery is largely produced by the SMEs and they are not equipped to follow the rigid compliance of excise norms. Strike affects clearing business at banks
