At the time of stop press, the update is that the GST Council has reached a consensus on the CGST and IGST bills, but the State GST bill could not be discussed - it emerges that some amendments by the Law Department are yet to be incorporated. Vodafone-Idea merger deal to conclude in Feb 2017
The Dollar Business Bureau Vodafone and Idea, the second and third largest telecom players in the Indian market after Airtel, have decided to combat intense competition from newcomer Reliance Jio, by merging their Indian business segment. The Birla enterprise and the British telecom giant are said to finalise a merger deal by February 2017, making the combined entity the largest telecom company in India. Vodafone has entrusted Marten Pieters, its former Chief for Indian market, with the responsibility of this ground breaking merger. The consolidation will result into a new firm that will hold a lion's share of Telecom industry's revenue. Projections estimate 40% revenue share and 380 million subscriber base for the consolidated enterprise. Tata Communications to invest $300 mn on expansion in FY18
The Dollar Business Bureau Global telecom company Tata Communications Ltd is going to invest about $300 million to expand its network, its software and improve its platform during the next financial year 2017-18. The company is also eyeing to acquire new service fields like cloud, mobility and Internet of Things (IoT). "In telecom, networks need to expand in terms of scale and reach to create infrastructure closer to customers. Mobile handsets market dips by 15% in the first three months of 2015
The Dollar Business Bureau The Indian mobile handsets market declined 15% in terms of overall sales in the first three months of 2015 even as the market leader Samsung managed to retain its leadership position, a study said on Wednesday. Sluggish sales registered in both smart phone and feature phone segments. However, smart phones sales declined by only 7% as compared to more than 18% in the case of feather phones segment. Of the total 53 million mobile handsets sold during the first quarter of this year, 37% (19.5 million) were smart phones, said the report released by Cyber Media Research (CMR) on Wednesday.
