The Dollar Business Bureau To set up Technology and Innovation Support Centres (TISC), the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) and the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) have entered into an agreement. For entrepreneurs and innovators in developing nations like India, these TISCs facilitate access to locally based technology knowledge banks and other ancillary services, which help them create, manage and protect their intellectual property rights (IPR). Some of the services offered by TISCs include database search training, access to a repository of patent/non-patent resources and IP-related publications, retrieval of technology information, and provision of basic information on laws, management, and technology commercialisation. Govt to create team on Indias status as innovation hub: Sitharaman
The Dollar Business Bureau The government will create a team to look into the positioning of India as an innovative country, said Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of Commerce and Industry, on Friday at the unveiling of Global Innovation Index (GII) 2016, in which India is in the 66th position. The Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) will form the team, consisting of government officers and experts from private sector firms, the minister said. “We will analyse the weaknesses and challenges and find out the areas where the government needs to get more involved or stay away,” she said. Patent applications: India ranks eighth in the list of nations
The Dollar Business Bureau With almost 980,000 trademarks in 2013, India only ranks behind China with 7.2 million (mn), the US (1.8 million) and Japan (1.7 million), says the World Intellectual Property Organization’s (WIPO), IP Facts and Figures, 2014 report. The report provides an overview of Intellectual Property (IP) activity using the latest available year of complete statistics. The figures presented are based on a selection of those reported in WIPO’s more compressive World Intellectual Property Indicators, 2014.
