Taiwan institute ties up with Indian electronic industry to promote ICT

In a move to boost country’s capability in electronics manufacturing, the Electronic Industries Association of India (ELCINA) has entered into an agreement with Taiwan’s Institute for Information Industry (III) to promote the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for mutual benefits.
On Monday, an agreement was signed between Vikram Desai, President, ELCINA and Jin-Fu Chang, Chairman, III, in the presence of Amitabh Kant, Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion among others.
ELCINA and III discussed in detail various areas of cooperation in the domain of industry supply chain, smart cities, internet of things (IoT), and other ICT related technologies under the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Digital India’ programs in India.
“We look forward to working closely with III experts to be based in New Delhi from its premises and both organizations propose to work towards negotiating a definitive agreement to further strengthen this partnership,” said Vikram Desai, President, ELCINA.
ELCINA has been making efforts towards facilitating business partnerships between Indian manufacturers and Taiwanese companies from Electronics & ICT sector. The association has been conducting a study on the status of the existing supply chain and manufacturing capabilities in India for the ICT sector.
The new agreement is expected to facilitate investment and cooperation decisions between Taiwanese and Indian firms.
The government has released a list of 98 cities to be developed as smart cities, including 24 state capitals. The Department of Electronics and Information Technology,(DeiTY) has also come out with a draft IoT Policy which focuses on creating an IoT industry in India of about $15 billion by 2020.
As per industry estimates, smart commercial buildings in proposed smart cities will be the highest user of IoT until 2017, after which smart homes will take the lead with just over 1 billion connected devices in 2018.
