Tata Motors witnesses sales growth of 6% in Aug’16

In August, exports from the company were 6,595 units, up 27% compared to same period a yr ago.

Tata Motors, one of India’s largest automotive manufacturing companies, stated on Thursday that it has sold 43,061 commercial and passenger vehicles in the month of August, an increase of 6 percent against the 40,679 units sold in same month in 2015. 

In the given month, the company has sold 13,002 units of passenger vehicles in the local market, an increase of 16 percent as compared to the 11,163 units sold in the corresponding month in 2015. 

“The company continued to witness year-on-year growth in certain key segments in August 2016, with the company's LCV sales growing by 10 percent and its passenger cars growing by 17 percent,” Tata Motors said in a statement. 

In August, the sales of passenger cars were 11,435 units, against the 9,814 vehicles sold in the same month in 2015, on the back of strong demand for the just launched Tiago. 

The exports from the company were at 6,595 units in the given month, witnessing a surge of 27 percent as compared to 5,201 vehicles in the same period a year-ago. 

The total sales of commercial vehicle in August in the domestic market stood at 23,464, a drop of 3 percent. In the domestic market, the light commercial vehicles sales was 13,495 units, an increase of 10 percent compared to same month in 2015. 

However, sales of medium and heavy commercial vehicles declined by 17 percent and stood at 9,969 units in 2016. “The segment witnessed a sluggish demand, due to continuous slowdown in the recent months, because of the deferment of replacement and expansion of fleet,” the statement said.
