For facilitating integration of renewable energy (RE) on a large-scale in India, a technical committee formed by the Power Ministry has proposed a 15-point Action Plan and suggested to integrate RE with the national electricity grid.

According to a statement by Piyush Goyal, Minister of State for Power, Coal, New & Renewable Energy said that the Committee on Large Scale Integration of Renewable energy has suggested several measures that include bringing flexibility in the generation of conventional power, generation reserves, frequency control, etc, to integrate RE with the country’s power grid.

“The high-level technical committee has taken the initiative that would not only lead to reliable and secure operation of the grid with integration of RE on a mass scale but also help in achieving the country’s commitment towards a green and clean environment by reducing the carbon foot prints,” the Minister said in a statement.

"Now, our team will take up ‘one nation, one grid, one price’ on 24 x 7 mission mode. The country would also give free of cost assistance to SAARC countries and other under-developed countries of the world, for strengthening their power grid systems," he added.

India sets a target of having the generation capacity of 175 GW of renewable energy by 2022. The statement said that for this purpose the technical committee was formed with members from Ministry for Power, Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC), Central Electricity Authority (CEA), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL), several private organizations and representatives from States, rich in renewable energy.
