Her jet-setting schedule always keeps her on toes. But, as she says, it’s all about prioritising family and work life. Meet Priya Sachdev, Founder & CEO of Rock N Shop, an online marketplace that promises a unique luxury e-shopping experience.
She is not new to the world of luxury and high fashion brands. As Creative Director of The Sachdev Group (TSG) International – her family enterprise – she has been overseeing placement and interpretation of a host of luxury brands. An alumnus of the University College (London), this fashion entrepreneur has had a stint as an analyst with Credit Suisse. Ask her about any advice for the budding entrepreneurs and she says, “If you believe in an idea and have done your research, then just do it. Sky is the limit for those who believe in their dreams!” We do agree, Priya!
TDB: Tell us a bit about Rock N Shop. What was the idea behind starting a premium online shopping portal?
Priya Sachdev (PS): Rock N Shop is the future of luxury shopping in India, taking us a step closer to the world of high fashion. It has an amalgamation of premium and luxury brands for the benefit of customers looking at a glamorous shopping experience in the comfort of their space. We also have the EMI payment options which allow aspirational shoppers an opportunity to shop for the most sought-after luxury designer fashion brands. We started about a year ago – the idea was to have a larger outreach and offer customers brands under one exclusive platform.
The journey has been wonderful so far. We are getting amazing brands and great tie-ups. Currently, we have about 65 brands on the portal, 40 being Indian and the rest are international.
TDB: Do you plan to expand your outreach to international markets as well?
PS: Yes, we do plan to do that in future. But our target for the first five years is India. We will eventually look into overseas markets such as Africa, South East Asia and GCC. We would also look at investing in technology, creating unique experiences, including stylish suggestions on our portal so as to make it an overall enriching and interactive shopping experience for our user base.
TDB: High import duties on luxury goods – is that a concern to your company?
PS: True! Import duties on luxury goods are very high. If duties are slashed a bit, that will be very helpful. India is a growing market and looked up to as the next big hub for luxury products. Everyone is very competitive. So one always has to be on one's toes to compete with other online players in the same space.
TDB: How about work-life balance for you?
PS: I think, it’s just about managing time well and prioritising family and work life, which I have been able to do through the years. Work's important; so is family.
