Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) on Wednesday registered a 6% increase in its domestic vehicle sales, selling 12,200 units in May compared to 11,511 units in the correspondent month of last year.

Exportes in the month of May, however, slumped 31.62% to 990 units from last year’s 1,448.

The automobile major is now banking on its recently-introduced Innova Crysta to further its sales in the domestic market. The company exclaimed that its new product has generated good interest in the market.

"We launched the Innova Crysta this month and have received an overwhelming response from our customers. The Innova Crysta has already received close to 20,000 booking orders within a month of its launch," said N Raja, Director and Senior Vice President (Sales and Marketing), Toyota Kirloskar Motor.

"However, we keenly look forward to a favourable decision on the ban of registration of diesel vehicles above 2,000 cc in NCR which has been affecting the legitimate interests of TKM and its dealers in NCR," Raja said.

He said the ban on diesel vehicle has affected TKM as well as a few more industry players.

"This has been affecting our sales over the last six months and we are hopeful that the Supreme Court will consider our pleadings and lift the ban," he said.

In April, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) had extended a ban on the registration of diesel vehicles in Delhi to other cities.  The ban in Delhi was imposed on vehicles more than 10 years old and possessing an engine capacity of over 2000 cc.

Earlier this week, the NGT, however, gave states some more time to file detailed reports on the pollution level in their respective territories.
