US sees huge potential for innovation, R&D in India

Noticing the huge potential for Research & Development (R&D) and innovation in India, Katherine B Hadda, the US Consul General in Hyderabad, on Wednesday said that the US and India are working jointly in various related fields to boost innovation. 

Hadda said that she has witnessed a huge potential for innovation in the country during her visits to several R&D institutes in the city of Hyderabad.

She was speaking at a conference on 'Fostering Innovation & IP for A Better Tomorrow', organised by APTDC (Andhra Pradesh Technology Development and Promotion Centre) of CII (Confederation of Indian Industry) in Hyderabad.

Noting that the two countries are together working in various fields, she said a fund for technology development has been set up for encouraging innovators and inventors. 

“Twenty five inventions were selected and funded, which are at various levels of commercialisation,” she was quoted as saying in a release.

Speaking at the conference, K Varaprasad, Assistant Controller of Patents & Design, IPO, Chennai said the prospects for innovation by focussing on the Intellectual Property and possibility for getting funds should also be explored.
