If the world wants to learn about the consequences of sustained violence, it needn’t look at anything but Somalia, which, thanks to a civil war since 1991, has been in news only for pirates, malnourished kids, violence, and rude nicknames. In fact, the Somali economy has been so weak for well over two decades that it survives on donations and remittances, and one needs mirror data to figure out its foreign trade
