43.67 lakh taxpayers file initial GSTR-3B returns for Oct

There is a considerable improvement in the number of businesses filing initial GSTR-3B returns, with around 43.67 lakh taxpayers have filed their returns for the month of October within due date, GST Network said on Tuesday.
This is highest return filing in a month within the due date, it added.
The last date of filing GSTR-3B returns for the month of October was November 20. GSTR-3B is the initial sales return filed by businesses in the GST regime.
About 56% of the registered taxpayers have filed the GSTR-3B returns for the month within due date.
“The number of taxpayers filing their GSTR-3B returns is showing marked improvement month after month with about 43.67 lakh of them filing their GSTR-3B returns for October till November 20, 2017, the highest so far,” said GSTN in a statement.
Around 39.33 lakh have filed GSTR-3B returns within due date for the month of September and 28.46 lakh taxpayers filed returns for August and 33.98 lakh have filed returns before due date for July.
“There is a steady rise in the number of taxpayers filing their GSTR-3B returns every month which is encouraging to see. The trend of taxpayers filing their returns on the last day continues though. Taxpayers are urged to file their returns early to avoid last minute hassles,” said Prakash Kumar, CEO, GSTN.
On November 20, about 14.76 lakh businesses have filed their returns on the GSTN portal.
The highest number of GSTR-3B returns for October was filed from Punjab, with around 73.09% of the taxpayers in the state filed their returns for the month so far, the GSTN said.
