AYUSH Minister seeks inputs from global experts to turn India into Ayurveda hub

AYUSH Minister Shripad Yesso Naik has sought for inputs and suggestions from researchers and practitioners of Ayurveda from across the world, which may be included in the Ministry’s works with regards to streamlining the practice and study of this India’s traditional health sciences.

“AYUSH Ministry is taking concerted efforts for systematic development of Ayurveda and other traditional medicines, stated Naik while speaking at the 7th World Ayurveda Congress, held in Kolkata last week.

The Minister also administered an oath amongst the practitioners and researchers of Ayurveda for concertedly working to develop and make popular the Ayurveda practice, which is a traditional system of health care developed in the ancient India.

In the last two decades, interest has been revived in this traditional system of healthcare all over the world, said Naik.

One of the main reasons behind the resurgence is that Ayurveda preaches a preventive healthcare approach of treatment, he added.

The Minister also informed that AYUSH Ministry has already inked a number of Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) with different institutions in several countries related to bilateral cooperation in the areas of research and knowledge-sharing of Ayurveda and other traditional methods of medicine.

The Ministry is working in collaboration with other institutions, agencies and concerned departments to make the country a global hub for research, knowledge, practice and development projects on traditional medicines.

Appreciating the organisers of the World Ayurveda Congress for their hard work to bring together Ayurveda experts from across the world on a single platform, Naik said, it will provide support to the Government’s objective to create awareness about Ayurveda and sensitise people about this unique traditional method.

The Minister also announced that the next World Ayurveda Congress will going to be held in 2017 in Gandhinagar.
