Australian construction firm CIMIC Group’s Leighton Asia has won a contract to construct a project in Mumbai, the company said in a statement on Tuesday.
The company’s arm Leighton India Contractors has signed a pact to complete the second and third phases of the project Maker Maxity. This is likely to create a revenue of more than $169.5 million (approximately Australian $223-million) to the company.
Maker Maxity is a retail, commercial and residential project at the upscale area of Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai. Plans are afoot to develop this area into a hub for primarily investment banking. The second and third phases of the project include the development of both retail and hospitality sections of the project.
CIMIC Group Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Marcelino Fernandez Verdes said that the deal illustrates Leighton Asia’s reputation in India for delivering excellent results. The winning of this project is a big achievement in a competitive market like India, he added.
Leighton Asia Managing Director Manuel Alvarez Munoz said the company is delighted to have bagged its first project with the Maker Group. This company is one among the prestigious developers in the country. Leighton Asia will definitely bring its global experience, local knowledge and quality commitment to facilitate the completion of the project in time, he said.
The construction works on the project would begin this month, and are scheduled to be completed by the middle of the year 2019. The company is responsible to handle the retail and hospitality development that includes structural, electrical, mechanical, plumbing and civil works. Lifts, escalators, facade, finishing and other external works are also to be undertaken by the Australian firm.
