Maruti starts export of LCV to S. Africa, Tanzania

India’s largest automotive maker, Maruti Suzuki, revealed that it began exporting the much-anticipated Light Commercial Vehicle-LCV ‘Super Carry’ to Tanzanian and South African markets. Meanwhile, the LCV will be launched in India in the second quarter of the current fiscal.
The first batch comprising of 100 Super Carry LCV’s has been shipped, revealed Maruti Suzuki India.
The models being shipped to South Africa and Tanzania include the petrol variant of the LCV, which is run by G12B engine.
Meanwhile, the company, in a bid to explore international markets, is also mulling plans to export the LCV to SAARC countries.
In India, the LCV, powered by E08 engine, will be launched in selected parts of the country in the 2nd quarter of this fiscal.
Maruti Suzuki India is also planning to establish an independent retail channel exclusively for Super Carry to cater to the demands of domestic market.
The entry of the LCV in India has been facing constant delays. Plans to introduce the LCV segment was announced in July 2013. MSI is expected to launch the LCV in 2015.
Plan to introduce the LCV was a part of the agreement inked between MSI and its parent company Maruti Suzuki, in 1982. However, due to tepid response in the market, the plans remained on paper.
