Microsoft opens Cyber Security Centre in Gurgaon

Microsoft has opened a Cyber Security Engagement Centre (CSEC) in Gurgaon to protect the Indian internet users from threats related to cybercrime. The main objective of the CSEC is to fight against cybercrime through public-private partnerships. The Centre also aims to strengthen its cyber security relationship with the government, business firms and other organisations.

The CSEC in Gurgaon is one among the seven centres of the company spread across the globe. The Centre will act as a hub for Microsoft’s Digital Crime Unit (DCU) and will house experts from all fields. It will have attorneys, investigators and security response professionals from the global centres of the company. Another team based elsewhere in the country will provide cyber monitoring as part of the Microsoft Consultancy Services (MCS).

Remarking on the opening of the cyber security centre at Gurgaon, Microsoft India Chairman Bhaskar Pramanik said that India is witnessing an exciting turn in cyber security development. Data which is paramount to any industry plays a vital role as a key driver to security development. As Cloud computing has become a common storage source, Cybersecurity will play a significant role in securing that data. It will also help in the Indian government's initiative of Digital India. The new centre in Gurgaon is committed to taking the country’s digital transformation to newer heights, he said.

The CSEC will leverage DCU Cyber Threat Intelligence Program, to monitor and analyse malware infections. It will also offer malware threat assessment and intelligence for IP infrastructures. The CSEC has Microsoft’s technical proficiency, cross-industry expertise and innovative tools and technology to minimise digital risks more effectively. By working closely with National Cybersecurity Coordinator and the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), the Centre will provide information to reduce the digital risk in India, the Chairman said.
