MoUs worth Rs.8,835 cr signed in textile sector during Vibrant Gujarat

During the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2017, memorandum of understandings (MoUs) worth Rs.8,835 crore were signed in textile sector in different areas including textile parks, carpet development, textile processing and machinery. Textiles Minister Smriti Zubin Irani witnessed the signing of MoUs.
“Gujarat produces 29% of India’s total cotton production and this indicates the trust of textile industries in the prospects of the state, said Irani while addressing a seminar on 'Make in Gujarat' at the Summit in Gandhinagar on Thursday.
Irani also gave assurance of support from her Ministry for the development of textile value chain of the state and for exploring opportunities in technical textiles and research.
The Textiles Minister further said as a place having one of the largest concentrations of textiles in the country, the state is a one-point sourcing destination for all types of textiles.
She also emphasised on the textile education and said that there are a lot of possibilities for textile education in the state.
“In Gujarat, 28 ITIs (Industrial Training Institutes) are conducting programmes on skill development in textile sector and offering the textiles courses, which have recorded a placement ratio of 75%,” Irani said.
“Besides, two major institutes of the state, namely, National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) and National Institute of Design (NID), and several engineering colleges are offering degrees in textile technology, textile engineering and textile processing,” she added.
This year marks the 8th edition of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, being organised by the Government of Gujarat from January 10-13, 2017 at Mahatma Mandir in the state capital.
