Increase in duty will discourage cheap import of textile products: Irani

The Dollar Business Bureau Textiles Minister Smriti Zubin Irani said on Tuesday that the hike in customs duty on silk and manmade fibre, announced in the Budget, will discourage cheap imports of textile products from China and benefit the local manufacturers. “Increase in customs duty on silk and manmade fibre will discourage cheap Chinese textile products from flooding the market and benefit domestic manufacturers in the power loom sector,” Irani said while addressing media in New Delhi on Budget allocation for the Ministry. Aamir H Kaki Textiles Minister Smriti Irani on Thursday inaugurated the 44th edition of Indian Handicrafts and Gift Fair (IHGF) 2017, organised by Exports Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH), at India Expo Centre and Mart in Greater Noida. Handicrafts exports decline in first half of current fiscal: EPCH

Aamir H Kaki Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) said on Wednesday that handicrafts exports from the country were declined during the first six months of current financial year, due to disruptions caused by implementation of GST, exchange rates and some global matters. “The handicrafts exports from India during the first six months of 2017-18 were declined compared to a year ago. The exports during the period were Rs.12520 crore,” said O.P. Prahladka, Chairman, EPCH, while briefing the press on Wednesday on the eve of 44th edition of IHGF-Delhi Fair to be held from October 12-16. “However, the exports of handicrafts were Rs.24,392 crore during the financial year 2016-17, witnessing an increase of 13.15% compared to the previous year,” he added. Govt to support Tangaliya weavers in purchasing looms

The Dollar Business Bureau  With an ambitious vision to support and strengthen the domestic textile industry, the Government would facilitate Tangaliya weavers on their looms purchases, by extending them an assistance amounting to 90% of the price of looms. Interacting with Tangaliya weavers in Surendranagar district of Gujarat, Textiles Minister Smriti Zubin Irani said the government will continue to favour Tangaliya weavers’ interest and will form a special association of Tangaliya workers to oversee their developmental goals. Textiles Minister to inaugurate 58th IIGF 2017

PTI The India International Garment Fair (IIGF), the country's largest garment show in South Asia covering apparel and fashion accessories, begins in Delhi on Wednesday. The three-day fair provides a platform to overseas garment buyers to source products and forge business relationships with Indian players in the apparel and fashion accessories domain. The 58th IIGF caters primarily to Autumn-Winter 2017/18. A total of 312 participants from 14 states are participating in the fair.
