Scoot to launch its flights in India

Scoot Airline is the subsidiary of Singapore Airlines (SIA). SIA group is one of the largest foreign airline groups in India in lines with the operating subsidiaries as well as the destination it flies to.

Scoot Pte Ltd., the low-cost Singapore airlines will launch its flight services to Singapore from Chennai, Amritsar and Jaipur in order to mark its presence in the international aviation market. The flight services from Chennai and Amritsar to Singapore will start from 24th of May, while the services from Jaipur to Singapore is likely to commence from 2nd October, 2016.

Two of the other subsidiary of the Singapore Airlines, Tiger Air and Silk Air are also operating in India.

Country Head of Scoot Bharati Mahadevan, said, “We are a very young airline, just four years old, but have always been interested in the Indian market. Last year, when aircraft deliveries started coming in, we have been eying Indian market. And, we have already started the ground work early last year to commence operations here.”

The Scoot’s services to Chennai will be on a daily basis, while the flights to Singapore from Amritsar and Jaipur will be thrice a week. However, the airline plans to boost its services from Amritsar and Jaipur to four times a week. In Amritsar, they are planning to scale up the services from 1st of July, and in Jaipur from 28th of October.

Scoot will operate the Boeing 787 planes in India, and it has offered a limited time inaugural promotional offer from Chennai, Amritsar and Jaipur at $64 to Singapore. And once the launch of the new airline is in place, then the cost to international destinations is expected to come down to half the total cost.

Campbell Wilson, the CEO, said, “Scoot is excited to bring our proposition of value travel and service to guests in India, who will soon be able to fly to amazing destinations in our network through the Singapore hub.”

He also added, “Our launch in Chennai will complement the SIA Group’s existing services, while Scoot's new services to Amritsar and Jaipur will bring travellers to the magnificent Golden Temple and the stunning Pink City, enabling guests in Scoot’s network to discover India's mystique and allure.” Bharati also mentioned that once the services start in Chennai, Amritsar and Jaipur, then Scoot will become the largest airline group on the lines of destination.

The SIA group holds 49% stake in Vistara along with Tata’s 51%. Vistara is planning to start its international services, once India relaxes its regulations for domestic flights to fly internationally. However, the Federation of India airlines is pressurizing the government to stop the overseas carriers from creating an international hub in India.
