The Dollar Business Bureau Since the government rolled out Tourist Visa on Arrival (TVoA) scheme on November 27, 2014, India has witnessed an upsurge in international tourists arriving on e-Tourist Visa. During January-August 2015, the number of international arrivals has recorded a staggering growth. India attracted nearly 1.7 lakh international tourists, up 892.9% from 17,120 during the same period in 2014. “This high growth may be attributed to introduction of e-Tourist Visa for 113 countries as against coverage of earlier TVoA scheme for 12 countries,” said the Ministry of Tourism in a statement. Extension of e-Tourist Visa scheme to China, Hong Kong and Macau begins
Source: PIB, Government of India The Government has finalised arrangements to extend and implement the e-Tourist Visa facility to the passport holders of People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong Administrative Region and Macau Special Administrative Region with effect from the July 30, 2015, as announced by the Prime Minister during his recent visit to China. The total number of countries/territories covered under the e-Tourist Visa scheme will go up from 74 to 77, with the inclusion of these countries/territories. India sees 1086% increase in foreign tourists influx
The Dollar Business Bureau India registered a whopping 1086% increase in foreign tourist arrival during the first quarter of this year as compared to the same period last year. According to the latest government data, between January and April this year, a total of 94,998 foreign tourists visited the country on e-tourist visa as compared to 8,008 during the same period last year. In April alone, a total of 19,139 tourist arrived on e-tourist visa, up 783% as compared to 2,167 during the same month last year. New tourism policy all set to make India a preferred destination
The Dollar Business Bureau The Tourism Ministry is in the process of formulating a national tourism policy with the aim of positioning India as a “must see” destination for global travellers. The policy will encourage Indians to explore their own country and realise the potential of tourism as a major engine for economic growth. It will also generate employment. The government has asked for suggestions to prepare the draft of a new National Tourism Policy, 2015.
