Nearly 1988% growth in Tourist Visa on Arrival in October

Last month, 56,477 tourists arrived on e-tourist visa as compared to 2,705 in the month of October 2014

  India has witnessed a 1987.9%jump in the number of tourists visiting the country on Tourist Visa on Arrival (TVoA) in October 2015. Last month, 56,477 tourists arrived on e-tourist visa as compared to 2,705 in the month of October 2014. The government had rolled out the Tourist Visa on Arrival (TVoA) scheme, also known as e-Tourist Visa scheme on November 27, 2014 with an aim to simplify travel procedures and attract more number of tourists in the country. E- Tourist visa facility is available for citizens of 113 countries in at 16 international airports, including 7 added on August 15, 2015. The newly added international airports that can accept e-visa arrivals are Varanasi, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Amritsar, Gaya, Lucknow and Trichy. During January-October 2015, India attracted over 2.58 lakh international tourists, up 1073% from about 23 thousand registered during the corresponding period of 2014. The UK accounted for 22.80% of the total arrivals availing e- Tourist Visa facilities, followed by the US (16.70%), France (7.09%), Germany (7.02%), Australia (5.53%), Canada (4.39%), Russia (3.99%), China (2.93%), Ukraine (2.14%) and Spain (2.11%).
