India ranks 43 out of 45 nations in global innovation index

PTI India ranks abysmally at 43 out of 45 countries in a global innovation index, according to a report released by the US Chambers of Commerce which cited the country's "anaemic" Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) policy and patent act as challenges to innovation. In the 5th annual International IP Index 'The Roots of Innovation' by US Chamber of Commerce's Global Intellectual Property Center (GIPC), there is slight improvement in India s performance; it was ranked last or next-to-last in the previous four years. Govt to create team on Indias status as innovation hub: Sitharaman

The Dollar Business Bureau  The government will create a team to look into the positioning of India as an innovative country, said Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of Commerce and Industry, on Friday at the unveiling of Global Innovation Index (GII) 2016, in which India is in the 66th position.  The Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) will form the team, consisting of government officers and experts from private sector firms, the minister said.   “We will analyse the weaknesses and challenges and find out the areas where the government needs to get more involved or stay away,” she said.   India had witnessed a downward path during the period between 2013-2015 in its position for inputs and outputs. India top exporter of information, communication technology: UN

The Dollar Business Bureau  A UN agency report has ranked India as the world’s top exporter of information and communication technology, while recommending that the country should leverage its position to innovate in areas where materials sciences and biology intersect with computing. India jumped 14 places to acquire 61st position this year from the 85th rank in the latest Global Innovation Index (GII). The World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on Monday released the report in Geneva. India rises to 66th position in global innovation index

'Private players role vital to achieve competitiveness in defence sector'

 The Dollar Business Bureau India needs to have a long-term strategy to ensure the growth of the defence industry involving private players as production partners, said former president and scientist APJ Abdul Kalam.
