Lenovo to manufacture laptops in India
The Dollar Business Bureau Chinese electronics major Lenovo on Tuesday said it is planning to make India a potential centre for manufacturing laptops. "The Pondicherry plant, where we are already manufacturing desktops, has the capacity and flexibility to manufacture laptops (notebooks). The company will have to take a call when to do it," said Dinesh Nair, director, consumer business, Lenovo India. According to Nair, the company is committed to the PM’s Make in India initiative. The Dollar Business Bureau Lenovo, China’s multinational technology giant, is looking towards India to significantly enhance its sales growth worldwide even as sales of smartphone witnessed a slowdown in the Chinese market. The world’s largest PC manufacturer received around $1 billion in revenues from India in 2015. The company is now looking to launch more premium devices in the country, such as the new Moto Z smartphones which can be modified with 'mods'. Indian tablet market grows 7% in Q1 of 2016
The Dollar Business Bureau Tablet PCs sales in India increased by 7 percent to 0.91 million units during the period January-March 2016 as compared to the same period last year, a market research report specified. DataWind is leading the market with its share at 34.2 percent, recording a sequential growth of 37 percent, followed by Samsung at 21 percent. The third position is of Pantel (partner of BSNL), which has a market share of 20 percent. Global PC shipments down 9.6%
The Dollar Business Bureau For the sixth consecutive quarter, the PC shipments declined worldwide, and this time there was a decrease of 9.6 per cent at 64.8 million units in the first quarter of 2016, according to a report released by research firm Gartner. This is the first time since 2007 that shipment volume fell below 65 million units, it said. 4G device sales grow in India by 108% during Q12015
The Dollar Business Bureau Increasing use of smartphones and high-speed wireless internet has propelled the sales of 4G devices in Indian markets. According to a market research, sales of 4G-enabled devices that support high-speed data transfer have increased by whopping 108% between January and March this year. Analysts attribute the upward sales to the rising demand of data card and smartphones across the country. The two segments have witnessed an increase of 287% and 111% respectively during this period, said the quarterly report released by CyberMedia Research (CMR).
