The domestic prices of major agricultural items were below that of export prices in most of the years during the period 2004-2014, a joint study by The World Bank and Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER) on Tuesday revealed. Mango exports to be down this year as production drop by 70% in UP
The Dollar Business Bureau Due to adverse weather conditions, the production of mangoes declined around 70% and mango cultivators have suffered huge losses in Uttar Pradesh this year. Therefore, the exports of ‘king of fruits’ would likely to go down from the state. “This year mango production will be between 10 lakh tonnes to 15 lakh tonnes only. There is 70% drop in mango production as compared to previous year,” Insram Ali, President of All India Mango Growers Association (AIMGA) told PTI. The mangoes from India have been exported to Australia after the protocol was revised last month allowing the Indian fruit to cross into the Australian shores. The Registrar of Geographical Indications Registry, Chennai, O P Gupta has accorded the registration following an application from Horticulture Commissioner, Andhra Pradesh. The Andhra Pradesh government is the registered proprietor of the GI tag for mangoes, often hailed as "the king of fruits." A GI tag indicates that the product comes from a specific region.
