GST: Small cars to become costly, SUVs, 2-wheelers benefit

Luxury cars, sports utility vehicles (SUVs) and larger sedans would be benefitted from some rationalisation in tax structure as even after a 15% cess on the total levy, it will be lesser than the tax currently being levied on such models. Under the new tax regime, there will be a uniform rate of 28% on cars, unlike the multiple rates of tax levied presently. VW starts SUV Tiguan production at Aurangabad plant
The Dollar Business Bureau German automobile major Volkswagen on Wednesday said that the production has commenced on its forthcoming premium SUV Tiguan at the Skoda plant in Aurangabad (Maharashtra). Slated to be launched in India later this year, the Tiguan model will be available in a 2-litre diesel engine coupled with an automatic 7-speed gearbox. “The Tiguan will be our premium SUV offering for India and will cater to the unceasing demand in the segment. Mercedes recalls 1 mn cars worldwide due to a starter problem
The Dollar Business Bureau Global auto major Mercedes is recalling around one million cars and SUVs from all over the world due to a starter part, which can overheat and may cause fire. The recall includes certain E-Class, C-Class and CLA cars and GLC and GLA SUVs, from the year 2015 to 2017. Out of a million vehicles to be recalled by the company, around 308,000 cars are from the US only. The Germany-based automobile manufacturer reported 51 fires all over the world, with around 30 in the US. The automaker has not reported any injuries or death due to the problem. Trump now threatens Toyota with big border tax

Indias auto exports down 9.7% in Q1 2016-17
The Dollar Business Bureau India’s overall auto exports fell 9.7% in the first quarter of the current fiscal due to a significant decline in demand in some of the country’s core automobile markets. The sales of three-wheeler segment witnessed the maximum decline, as it shrank by 46.22% to almost 66 thousand units compared to over 122 thousand units in the same period a year ago. The two-wheeler exports, too, contracted by 8.3% to over 577 thousand units during April-June 2016-17 from almost 623 thousand units in the same period a year ago.
