TerraNet targets India to market new tethering app

Sweden based proximity aware solution provider TerraNet Lund is targeting India to market its offline tethering app — Meshmedia. This proximal connectivity app will be officially launched in January 2017.
Recently, the company completed a survey on the product and is now planning to deploy Meshmedia in the country, TerraNet India Managing Director Y R Rao told the Dollar Business Bureau.
As per the survey done by market research firm YouGov, there is a huge response in India for both premium and free version of Meshmedia. Meshmedia enables sharing of content freely to unlimited number of users without any internet connection. This unique feature has garnered tremendous interest in the market, to download or buy the app.
“Around 2 billion people use smartphones globally. We aim to capture at least 25% market share within three years of launching the app. In India, there are millions of smartphone users. So, we are expecting good revenues from this country,” Rao said.
TerraNet provides faster access to a wide range of proximity applications in the gaming, social media and educational areas. Proximal connectivity allows smartphones, tablets, PCs and IOT devices to automatically discover the users and services based on the proximity.
“The company plans to publish Meshmedia app on Google Play in association with international multimedia content service providers. The company is yet to fix a price for the download of the app. As the survey suggested, it could be around Rs.100 for each download in India. The main source of revenue is from app downloads and content pricing,” he said.
To demonstrate its uniqueness, TerraNet has partnered with Qualcomm during the Mobile World Congress 2016. Recently it entered into an agreement to acquire a service called GRIDD from Sony Mobile. This new service offers secondary collaborative market where users can buy and sell excess data capacity in giga bytes (GB).
