BMW rolls out 50,000th car from Chennai unit

Germany’s luxury car manufacturer BMW has rolled out its 50,000th car made in its Chennai plant, the company said in a statement on Thursday. The rolled out car was an all-new BMW 7 Series that was launched at the Auto Expo 2016. The model has received huge response from the luxury car enthusiasts. It boasts of futuristic technologies that include Touch Command System, Wireless Charging, Sky Lounge and Remote Control Parking.
Jochen Stallkamp, Managing Director of the BMW Plant Chennai, announced the roll-out of the 50,000th car locally manufactured at BMW Plant Chennai. Each BMW that is locally made is of the same international standard followed anywhere else in the world. In order to boost the ‘Make in India’ initiative of the government, the Bavarian car manufacturer has increased 50% of the level of localisation at the BMW Plant Chennai, he added.
The BMW Chennai plant has commenced its operations in 2007. Currently it produces eight different car models of the brand. The models include the BMW 1 Series, the BMW 3 Series, the BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo, the BMW 5 Series, the BMW 7 Series, the BMW X1, the BMW X3 and the BMW X5.
