Govt launches a portal and mobile app for Start-ups
Following its earlier commitments to catalyse a conducive environment for the startup companies in India, the government on Thursday launched Startup India portal and Mobile app, in line with the Startup India Action Plan put forth by Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier this year.
Modi had officially unveiled the Startup India programme on January 16 this year and had said he would soon introduce a Startup India Action Plan, envisaged to encourage innovative startups.
The Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP) Secretary Ramesh Abhishek launched the portal and the app in New Delhi on Thursday.
The portal and the app are designed to work as a one-stop solution for Startup-related information, which will have regular updates on circulars issued by the government, incubators and agencies for recommending startups and mentorship, incubator facilities, IPR support and funding among others.
“Entities that fulfill the criteria as per the definition of “Startup” and are incorporated/ registered in India, can obtain recognition as a “Startup” to avail various benefits listed in the Startup India Action Plan,” Ministry of Commerce and Industry said in a statement, describing the procedure, features and benefits of the initiative.
“The process of recognition is simple and user friendly and involves a single page application form that a user can fill either through a web interface or through mobile app. Formats of the recommendation/ support letters that need to be attached as part of the application form have been published on the portal and mobile app,” it said.
For an effective and timely clearance of applicants’ requests, also called the certificate of recognition, the DIPP has setup an Inter-Ministerial Board, who will also verify the eligibility of Startups and their tax and IPR related benefits.
