IT exports from Kerala to touch Rs 15,000 crore in 2015

The Dollar Business Bureau The Government of Kerala, on Sunday, informed about the growth prospects of the State’s Information Technology (IT) sector in the current year, while stating that the sector has witnessed a growth in the last four years. A statement in this regard was made by P K Kunhali kutty, Industries and IT Minister, Government of Kerala. The Minister was quoted to have said that the IT exports from Kerala are likely to touch Rs 15,000 crore mark in 2015 and is also expected to result in creation of around 2 lakh jobs in the State. The Minister further stated that the IT sector in the State has registered a good growth in the last four years, while informing the export income of the sector, during the said-period, has touched Rs 10,000 crore against the Rs 2,000 crore reach prior to the period. During the last four year period, the sector has also created provided 1 lakh direct employment, added the Minister, according to an official publication of the Government of Kerala. In this regard, he expressed hope that the State’s IT sector, besides touching the Rs 15000 crore mark, will also create 2 lakh jobs as a result of the commissioning of first phase of the Kozhikode Cyberpark and Kochi Smart city projects, in the current year. He further informed about the plans being taken up by the State government towards achieving a transformation in line the Government of India’s Digital India initiative, under the concept of e-governance. In a similar move, the State government, through its e-office project under e-governance initiative, will be making all the departments of the State Secretariat ‘paperless’ and the project will also be implemented in ten major directorate and five collectorates soon, according to the Minister. All the fourteen districts to be transformed have got their place in the list of 50 e-districts across the country, informed the Minister, adding that ‘with this, Kerala is poised to become the first digital state in the country.’
