Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), the world’s largest tractors manufacturer became the first Indian company to join the EP100 campaign. This is a campaign led by The Climate Group, an international non-profit group, that will work together with one of the world’s most powerful and influential business companies with the aim to double energy productivity and maximize economic output.

Prominent figures present during the momentous signing include François Hollande - French President, Ban Ki-moon – UN Secretary of General, Leonardo DiCaprio – Messenger of Peace, and Mogens Lykketoft - President of UNGA. The aim of the EP100 campaign is to encourage companies to use the energy efficiently, as it is estimated that by following this campaign, the world can save up to 1 crore 52 lakhs crores (2 trillion euros), which in return can create over six million jobs by 2020.

At the event, M&M Executive Director Pawan Geonka said, “Sustainability is an integral part of Mahindra’s approach to business. By signing up for EP100, we are making a significant commitment to double our energy productivity by 2030, on a baseline of 2005. We hope to make a significant contribution towards achieving the goals as agreed upon at COP21, and we’re optimist that many other corporations will soon become a part of the campaign.”

The applause announcement came a day before Anand Mahindra, the Chairman of the Mahindra Group represented the corporate world at the UN signing ceremony of the Paris climate change agreement—the ceremony took place today (Friday).

Executive Director of The Climate Group said that the EP100 campaign aims at achieving and implementing bold climate changes. He said, “We are witnessing a global clean revolution that calls for a paradigm shift in energy generation and consumption; doing more with less energy simply is the way forward to a sustainable future.” Other Indian companies will come forward and the campaign, he hopes.
