Naascom, the IT-BPM industry body announced that the government's “single window approach” with the new intellectual property rights will help entrepreneurs leverage the linkages between several IP offices.

The cabinet approved the national IPR policy with an aim to promote creativity, entrepreneurship and innovation.

It is expected that the policy will devise a future roadmap for IPR in India, in addition to laying an institutional mechanism for monitoring, implementation and review.

An official statement said that the policy will weave the government’s strength, research and development organizations, corporate entities, educational institutions, including MSMEs, startups and other stakeholders towards the creation of an innovation-conducive environment.

The policy has “reformed” the current administration by making the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) a nodal point of contact for guiding and coordinating the future developments of IPR’s in India.

However, the actual responsibility and the implementation of action plan will remain with the concerned ministries or the departments with their assigned work provinces.

The statement also said that the periodic reviews and the update related to IP, the procedure and the guidelines would ensure an effective IPR system. Also, a proper timeline for the grant of IPR is very much critical for its relevance.

Nasscom also appreciates the policy for enclosing the entire value chain for IPR awareness, legislative framework, generation, commercialization, administration, adjudication, enforcement and human capital.
