AV Chaturvedi takes over as additional charge of DGFT after Bhalla

Alok Vardhan Chaturvedi (IAS), Additional Secretary in the Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has taken the additional charge of the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), after Ajay Kumar Bhalla was assigned to the Ministry of Power on June 30.

“The new name for the post of DGFT has not yet been decided but Alok Vardhan Chaturvedi has taken the additional charge of DGFT,” sources from DGFT office told The Dollar Business.

Bhalla, who had served as DGFT since October 2016, took over as the new Power Secretary on June 30.

Chaturvedi, a 1986 batch IAS officer of Bihar cadre, has been serving as Additional Secretary, in the Commerce Department since July 2016.

Bhalla was the fourth DGFT to leave the post in less than four years. 

DGFT is a crucial post which is entrusted with responsibilities for formulating and implementing the foreign trade policy, with the main objective of promoting India’s exports.
