WABAG gets WWTP project for Rs.141 cr in Nepal

VA TECH WABAG Ltd (WABAG), a leading Indian company in water technology, on Wednesday announced that it has acquired a project for wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) in Nepal worth Rs.141 crore.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide funds for the project, including its maintenance and operation costs for a 10-year period.

“We have kick started the new financial year with an ADB-funded project from Nepal. Our team’s targeted geographies is now yielding good results,” WABAG India Head of Sales, S Natrajan said, in a statement.

This water treatment plant is the second project for WABAG in Nepal, the first one being in Melamchi (central Nepal), which was financed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

In addition, the project order consists of expansion and rehabilitation work of the Guheshwori wastewater treatment plant.

The company will undertake the expansion and rehabilitation part of the Guheshwori wastewater treatment plant, keeping the existing plant operational. In 2002, the plant was constructed to treat 16.2 MLD on regular basis. However, after expansion and rehabilitation, the capacity of the plant will increase to 32.4 MLD. 

The plant is meant to make use of the bio-gas, that is produced from the sludge for power generation.
